Baidu offers 57 search and community services including Baidu Baike, an  online collaboratively-built encyclopedia, and a searchable keyword-based  discussion forum. Baidu was established in 2000 by co-founders, Robin Li and  Eric Xu. Both of the co-founders are Chinese nationals who have studied and  worked overseas before returning to China. Baidu.com Inc. is registered in the  Cayman Islands. In April 2010, Baidu ranked 7<sup>th</sup> overall in Alexa&#8217;s  internet rankings. In December 2007, Baidu became the first Chinese company to  be included in the NASDAQ-100 index.</p>

<p>Reference.com was launched by InReference, Inc in February of 1997. The site was later acquired by Lexico Publishing Group, LLC. In 2005, Lexico announced that Reference.com would begin offering searches of Wikipedia content. In mid-2007, the site typically ranked in the mid-200s among the most popular sites on the Internet. On July 3, 2008, Ask.com acquired Lexico Publishing Group, LLC and its three properties: Thesaurus.com, Reference.com, and Dictionary.com.</p>

This site cross references the contents of Wikipedia, Columbia Encyclopedia, Hutchinson Encyclopedia (subscription), The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, Computer Desktop Encyclopedia, the Acronym Finder database, several financial dictionaries, legal dictionary, and other content.</p>
<p>The site also has a feature which allows a user to preview an article while positioning the mouse cursor over a link. One can also double click on any word and look it up in the dictionary. The site is run by Farlex, Inc./ Ahmed Group.</p>

<p>In January 2006, TheFreeDictionary released a home page which can be personalized by the user. The website used Ajax to provide individual users with a personal window to the web.</p>
